Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh: A bizarre turn of events unfolded in Gorakhpur just before a scheduled engagement, leaving the bride’s family in complete shock. On the day of the ceremony, the groom’s side did not show up. When the bride’s brother called the groom’s number, a woman picked up and claimed to be the groom’s long-time partner.
Six-Year Affair and Shocking Confession
The woman revealed that she had been in a relationship with the groom, Saurabh Chauhan, for six years and had undergone three abortions during their affair. Her revelation stunned the bride’s family, who were preparing for the engagement at a hall in P.P. Ganj on February 13.
Groom’s Family Responds
The bride’s family immediately contacted Saurabh’s father. He refused to comment and abruptly ended the call. When the bride’s family sought the return of money and gifts already given, they reportedly received death threats. The local police have registered a case and are investigating the matter.
Engagement Details
The engagement was arranged between Akhilesh Kumar’s sister and Saurabh Chauhan of Seer village. Saurabh works in the postal department. The engagement had been scheduled with a cash gift of ₹6 lakh, a gold chain, and a ring, of which ₹3 lakh had already been given. The marriage itself was planned for May.
Evidence via WhatsApp
On the day of the engagement, when the groom’s side failed to arrive, the bride’s brother called Saurabh, and the woman picked up. She stated, “Saurabh belongs only to me. Please do not proceed with his marriage to someone else. I have been with him for six years and have had three abortions.” She also shared photographs and chat messages via WhatsApp as evidence of their relationship.
The woman explained that she had taken Saurabh’s phone after learning about the wedding plans, though Saurabh’s family eventually recovered it. She continued communicating through the SIM card in her possession, leaving the bride’s family shocked.
Attempted Resolution and Police Action
After learning the truth, the bride’s brother called Saurabh’s father, Indrajit Chauhan, who refused to address the situation. A discussion (panchayat) was held at the engagement venue involving both families, during which the groom acknowledged his relationship. The bride’s family decided to call off the engagement and demanded the return of money already spent.
The PP Ganj police have stated that they have received a written complaint from the bride’s family. Both parties have been called to the police station for talks. Authorities hope the matter can be resolved amicably; otherwise, legal action will follow.
