Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh: In a shocking incident linked to a romantic relationship, a young couple in Gorakhpur attempted to end their lives by jumping from a height of 24 feet. Both sustained serious injuries and are currently undergoing treatment in hospital. Police are investigating the case.
Incident Details
The girl, aged 20, from the Khajni police station area, had been in a relationship for nearly a year with 22-year-old Vishal from Kotwali area, Sant Kabir Nagar district. Her family had arranged her marriage elsewhere, scheduled for June this year.
On Tuesday, Vishal had visited the girl’s village to attend a traditional post-death ceremony (terahvin) and took the opportunity late at night to meet his girlfriend at her home. When her family noticed, they tried to stop him, causing a commotion and drawing the attention of nearby villagers.
According to locals, around 11 p.m., feeling surrounded, Vishal grabbed the girl’s hand, climbed to the roof, and both jumped from a height of 24 feet, resulting in severe injuries.
Medical Response
The couple was immediately rushed to the district hospital by family and villagers. After initial treatment, doctors referred them to the medical college for advanced care. Their treatment is ongoing.
Police Statement
Khajni police station in-charge, Jayant Kumar Singh, confirmed that the police are aware of the incident. No formal complaint has yet been filed by the family. Both individuals are adults, and police are examining all aspects of the case.
