Gorakhpur Blind Murder Case: Woman Lured from Mumbai and Killed; Husband and Wife Arrested

Gorakhpur, Feb 3: Police in Gorakhpur have cracked a sensational murder case in the PPganj area, revealing that the killing of a woman was orchestrated by her ex-lover, Vijay Kumar Sahni, and his wife Sandhya. The duo reportedly carried out the brutal act to end ties with the victim.

The incident came to light last Thursday when the body of a woman, around 35 years old, was discovered near the Gobarhiya nala in Barghatta. Local residents alerted the police, who sent the body for post-mortem and launched a detailed investigation. The deceased was later identified as Priya Shetty.

Lured from Mumbai
During police interrogation, Vijay Sahni confessed to the crime, stating that he wanted to rid himself of Priya, who he felt was interfering in his life again. On the night of the murder, he allegedly intoxicated Priya, made her sit on a scooter, and along with his wife, took her to an isolated location where they killed her and attempted to conceal her identity.

CCTV Footage and Auto Driver Key to Case
The breakthrough came when police received a tip from an auto driver who saw a man and two women, allegedly drunk, in a dispute over money. Subsequent CCTV footage showed the three traveling on a scooter; however, only Vijay and his wife were seen returning. Based on these leads, both were taken into custody and eventually confessed to the crime.

Background
Vijay Sahni, who works in Mumbai’s insurance sector with a monthly income of around ₹1.5 lakh, previously had a live-in relationship with Priya Shetty. The couple had a son in 2013, but Vijay later distanced himself and returned to Gorakhpur to marry another woman. In 2022, social media rekindled contact between Vijay and Priya, which eventually escalated into conflict, culminating in the murder.

DNA Test and Further Investigation
Police have said that DNA tests will be conducted for Priya’s 13-year-old son and Vijay. The scooter used during the crime reportedly belonged to Vijay’s father-in-law, Ramvilas, who is also being investigated for potential involvement in the conspiracy.

The SOG team and PPganj police, credited with the swift resolution of the case, were rewarded ₹11,000 by SSP Raj Karan Nair. The accused husband and wife are now in jail, and further legal proceedings are ongoing. The future of three young children now hangs in the balance.
