The Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) has announced a major relief for passengers returning from their hometowns after the Diwali and Chhath festivals. To handle the heavy rush of people coming back to Delhi-NCR from Purvanchal, the corporation will operate extra buses on all major routes from November 6 onwards.
25 Buses per Route for Purvanchal
Officials said that at least 25 buses will be deployed on every major Purvanchal route, compared to the regular 8–12 buses. These buses will cover long-distance destinations such as Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Azamgarh, Mau, and Ballia, ensuring a smooth return journey for passengers.
Regional Manager Kesari Nandan Chaudhary stated that the demand is expected to rise significantly after November 6, when the first phase of elections concludes in Bihar. “Even now, buses coming from the Purvanchal region are running packed. The demand will increase further once the festival ends,” he added.
Extended Services Up to Lucknow and Beyond
To accommodate the growing passenger load, UPSRTC has extended several routes up to Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Azamgarh, and Varanasi. Earlier, many buses operated only up to Kanpur or nearby regions. Now, the corporation has stretched their services to longer routes to meet the festive rush.
Kaushambi ARM Anshu Bhatnagar informed that special night services have also been introduced to assist office-goers and students, enabling them to reach Delhi on time without any inconvenience.
Reassigned Staff Duty
Officials added that personnel who were earlier deployed for the Garh Mela will now be assigned to manage the Purvanchal routes, ensuring smooth operations and crowd control.
Smooth Return Journey Assured
The transport department has taken this step to ensure that those who traveled home for Diwali and Chhath Puja can return comfortably to Delhi-NCR and other cities. The move is expected to provide significant relief to thousands of travelers and daily commuters.
