Good News for Delhi Residents: Pankha Road to Become Signal-Free with Two New Flyovers

In a bid to decongest traffic, authorities have initiated a traffic study to make Pankha Road completely signal-free from Uttam Nagar Bus Terminal to Delhi Cantt (Kirby Place). The Public Works Department (PWD) has also written to relevant departments to remove encroachments near Sagarpur Red Light, where a 200-meter stretch on both sides of the road is currently obstructed.

Flyovers to Ease Traffic
The plan includes constructing two new flyovers over a 6-kilometer stretch, from Desu Colony to Janakpuri D-Block, to streamline traffic at key junctions. While the road width varies from 33 meters to 41 meters, the designed width of Pankha Road exceeds 60 meters. The stretch includes seven T-junctions: Lal Sai Marg, Major P. Srikumar Marg, Mall Road, Dada Sataram Mamtani Marg, Seva Marg, Pt. Vishnu Dutt Marg, and Arya Samaj Road.

Survey Findings
The PWD’s ground survey revealed that encroachments along the stretch, particularly between Dabri Flyover and Sagarpur Flyover, have reduced the usable width of the road, with some areas narrowed to nearly half. Several permanent structures will need to be removed to accommodate the flyovers.

Current Status
Traffic at Dabri Flyover to Mall Road and Major P. Srikumar T-junction has already been made signal-free. The upcoming 1.3-kilometer flyover will cover three remaining T-junctions — Kali Mata Mandir, Sagarpur Marg Crossing, and Seva Marg — ensuring uninterrupted traffic flow. The new flyover construction will integrate with the existing Dabri Flyover, providing a seamless route for commuters.

With these measures, Pankha Road is set to become a major signal-free corridor, significantly easing congestion for daily commuters.
