Good News for Delhi Residents: New Flyover to Ease Traffic on Dwarka Expressway

In a major development aimed at reducing traffic congestion in South-West Delhi, the Public Works Department (PWD) is set to construct a new flyover between NH-48 (near Mahipalpur) and the Bijwasan Railway Overbridge. The proposed flyover will provide an alternate connectivity route to the Yashobhoomi Convention Centre and is expected to ease traffic jams on the Najafgarh-Kapaserah Road. The Kejriwal government is simultaneously working on multiple infrastructure projects across the city.

Relief from Traffic Jams
The approximately 15–16 km long Najafgarh-Kapaserah Road has been grappling with heavy congestion for the past 10–12 years, especially the 5.5 km stretch between NH-48 and Dwarka Expressway. The existing 800-meter, four-lane Bijwasan flyover near Bijwasan Railway Station has added to the traffic woes, as the increasing vehicle load leads to severe bottlenecks. PWD is planning to hire a private agency to conduct a feasibility study for this new project.

Benefits of the New Flyover
Once completed, the new flyover will provide motorists with an alternative route to reach different parts of Dwarka. Vehicles heading toward Dwarka can take the Najafgarh-Kapaserah Road from Mahipalpur and, via the new flyover, reach Yashobhoomi, Sector-28, Pochanpur, and other Dwarka sectors more easily.

Expansion of the Existing Bijwasan Flyover
In addition to the new flyover, plans are underway to extend the existing Bijwasan flyover by approximately 1.5 km. The importance of this flyover is further amplified by the ongoing redevelopment of Bijwasan Railway Station, a ₹728.92 crore project being developed into a major transport hub.

The redevelopment includes eight platforms, an integrated airport connection, commercial and retail spaces, and seamless integration with the Delhi Metro, improving overall city connectivity. Bijwasan Railway Station will also serve as a key railway link to IGI Airport and connect with the under-construction Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor, significantly enhancing regional transport infrastructure.
