New Delhi: In a major step towards easing traffic congestion, the Delhi government under Rekha Gupta is moving ahead with an ambitious action plan to make key stretches in the city signal-free. As part of this initiative, plans are underway to construct two underpasses near the Sagarpur signal on Pankha Road, along with a proposed flyover. This project is expected to significantly reduce traffic jams and save commuters valuable travel time.
Two-Lane Underpasses to Improve Traffic Flow
The redevelopment plan covers the stretch from Sagarpur signal to Mayapuri Metro Station, including Seva Marg and Satguru Ram Singh Marg. For commuters traveling from Janakpuri and Dabri towards Mayapuri, a two-lane underpass is proposed to provide direct access to the flyover. Similarly, traffic coming from Mayapuri towards Sagarpur Flyover may also use a dedicated underpass, ensuring smoother movement without interruptions.
Key Details of the Stretch
According to PWD officials, the Seva Marg section from Sagarpur signal to Lajwanti Garden measures approximately 900 meters with a road width of just 25 meters, and suffers from encroachments in several places. The stretch from Lajwanti Garden Flyover to Mayapuri Metro Station along Satguru Ram Singh Marg spans about 3,400 meters with a width of 30.48 meters. This area includes Mayapuri Junk Market and several banquet halls, resulting in frequent heavy traffic jams throughout the day.
Flyover at Sagarpur Signal
In addition to the underpasses, a flyover is planned at Sagarpur signal, directly connecting to the Sagarpur Flyover. The flyover will start from Janakpuri D-Block. To further decongest Pankha Road, a comprehensive plan is also being prepared for the stretch from Uttam Nagar Terminal to Dabri Chowk, ensuring smooth traffic flow even after the construction of new flyovers beyond Dabri.
With the completion of these underpasses and flyovers, the 4.3 km stretch along Seva Marg and Satguru Ram Singh Marg is expected to become virtually jam-free, offering a much-needed relief to Delhi commuters.
