Indore: Madhya Pradesh police have busted a major gold fraud in Indore, arresting four conmen who allegedly duped a local jeweler of nearly half a kilogram of gold, valued at approximately ₹50 lakh. The accused were apprehended from Rishikesh and Jodhpur.
According to police reports, the incident came to light when a jeweler approached Bhanwarkua police station, reporting that he had been contacted on WhatsApp by individuals posing as customers. The gang placed an order for five “Queen Necklaces.” When one of the accused visited the shop, he handed over fake gold-like pieces and fled with the real necklaces. An FIR was registered under BNS, and an investigation was launched immediately.
CCTV Footage and Mobile Tracking Lead to Arrests
Using CCTV footage, mobile location data, and technical analysis, police first arrested Santosh Sami, a resident of Indore. Sami’s interrogation revealed the full network, leading to the capture of main accused Sanjay Soni along with his associates Gaurav Soni and Neeraj Soni in Rishikesh and Jodhpur. Police recovered the stolen gold, weighing approximately 500 grams, which the gang had attempted to melt and recast into new chains. Additional jewelry was found hidden in Jodhpur.
Repeat Offenders Exploit Court Appearance
The investigation also revealed that Sanjay, Gaurav, and Neeraj had prior fraud cases registered against them in Indore. They were in the city to appear in court for those previous cases and used the opportunity to commit a new heist.
Professional Conmen Targeting Jewelry
DCP Anand Kaladgi stated that the accused are professional fraudsters with a history of targeting gold and jewelry. Police are continuing to trace the gang’s remaining network and accomplices, with expectations of further recoveries and arrests.
