
Panaji: The devastating fire at the “Birch by Romeo Lane” nightclub in Arpora, North Goa, has shaken the entire nation. The tragedy, which erupted in the early hours of Sunday, claimed 25 lives and left several others injured. A day after the incident, the nightclub’s owner Saurabh Luthra, who is currently absconding, has issued his first public statement.
Luthra Expresses ‘Deep Sorrow’, Assures Cooperation
In an online statement, Saurabh Luthra expressed profound grief over the loss of lives and extended heartfelt condolences to the affected families. He stated that the management stands firmly with the families of the deceased and the injured.
Luthra said, “The management is deeply shocked and saddened by the tragic loss of life and property at Birch. In this hour of immeasurable grief, we stand in unwavering solidarity with the families of the victims and the injured.”
Despite his message of cooperation, both Saurabh Luthra and his brother Gaurav Luthra remain on the run. Goa Police have launched a search operation to trace the two brothers.
Instagram Statement Highlights Support for Victims
In a post shared on Instagram, Luthra reiterated that the establishment would extend all possible support and assistance to those affected by the tragedy. He assured that the management would remain committed to helping families cope with the profound loss and hardship they are facing.
Four Managers Sent to Police Custody
The fire broke out in the upscale Arpora-based club early Sunday morning, prompting immediate legal action. A local court has remanded four accused, including three general managers and one bar manager, to police custody.
Goa’s Director General of Police (DGP) Alok Kumar confirmed that a formal FIR has been registered against owners Saurabh and Gaurav Luthra. The restaurant and club chain—Romeo Lane, Birch by Romeo Lane, and Mama’s Buoi—is known to be conceptualized and founded by Saurabh Luthra.
Nation Awaits Accountability
As investigations continue and key accused remain absconding, the tragic incident has intensified demands for improved fire safety compliance and stricter enforcement in Goa’s nightlife establishments.
