Panaji, Goa: In the wake of a devastating nightclub fire earlier this month, Goa authorities have intensified inspections of tourist hotspots across the state. As part of these actions, the popular Curlies Pub in North Goa has been sealed after officials identified multiple violations.
The pub, situated along the beach in North Goa, had previously been in the spotlight in connection with the high-profile Sonali Phogat death case in August 2022. Despite earlier warnings and partial demolition of unauthorized structures, the establishment allegedly continued to flout regulatory norms, prompting authorities to take stringent action.
Safety Checks After Recent Tragedy
The December 6 Arpora nightclub fire, which claimed 25 lives at Birch by Romeo Lane, spurred the government to launch extensive safety audits ahead of the Christmas and New Year tourist season. Acting on the orders of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, Coastal Regulatory Zone (CRZ) officials conducted thorough inspections, identifying violations that led to the sealing of Curlies Pub on Friday.
Authorities Issue Stern Warning
CRZ officials stated that the inspections targeted illegal constructions along the coastline and violations of safety protocols. The Goa administration has warned that similar enforcement actions will continue against any establishment that breaches licensing or regulatory requirements.
Curlies Pub, once considered one of North Goa’s most popular nightlife destinations, frequently draws tourists from across the country and abroad. With the festive season underway, authorities emphasize strict compliance to ensure the safety of visitors and prevent repeat tragedies.
