Giant Pythons Seek Warmth in Haystack: Snake Rescuer Saves Female While Male Escapes

Sagar, Madhya Pradesh: Amid the biting winter chill, a pair of massive pythons found refuge in a haystack near Sanoha village, causing a stir among locals. When spotted, panic ensued, prompting the intervention of renowned snake rescuer Akil Baba, who successfully extracted the female python by holding its tail, while the larger male—measuring approximately 15 feet—slipped away before being caught.

The Rescue Operation

The Forest Department had alerted Akil Baba about the presence of two giant pythons near its office. Both snakes, estimated at 10 and 15 feet in length, were hiding deep within the hay. Using a stick to locate them, Akil Baba managed to grab the 10-foot female python and carefully pull her out. She was later secured in a sack using a jaw clamp. The larger male managed to evade capture, reportedly around 15 feet long, and remains at large.

Why Snakes Hide in Hay

According to Akil Baba, hay provides warmth, which is why pythons and other animals seek shelter in haystacks during extreme cold. He warns that entering hay during winter can be risky, as venomous snakes and other dangerous creatures may be hiding inside.

A Veteran Snake Rescuer

Akil Baba has become a trusted name in Sagar for snake rescues over the past decade and a half. He has safely rescued thousands of snakes and venomous creatures, including cobras, Russell’s vipers, and kraits. In his career, he has successfully rescued over 75 pythons, ranging from smaller specimens to giants measuring up to 18 feet.

The incident highlights both the adaptability of wildlife in seeking warmth and the crucial role of trained rescuers in ensuring the safety of both humans and snakes.
