Ghazipur, UP: In a bizarre incident at the ACJM Court in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, a 70-year-old accused appeared for his hearing while lying on a cot, claiming to be paralyzed and unwell. Despite his condition, the court ordered him to serve a three-month jail sentence.
Case Background
The case is related to a bounced cheque. Ramdarsh Yadav, the accused, had borrowed ₹9 lakh from Ajit Ram for business purposes. To repay the loan, Yadav issued a cheque, which bounced. When he failed to repay the loan, the complainant filed a case in court.
Earlier, the ACJM Court had sentenced Yadav to three months in jail along with an order to repay the loan with interest. Yadav challenged the ruling in the High Court, which instructed him to surrender in the lower court.
Drama in Court
On his scheduled surrender, Yadav appeared lying on a cot, prompting surprise among court attendees. His lawyer claimed that he was genuinely unwell, but the complainant’s counsel alleged that Yadav was trying to evade both his sentence and loan repayment by staging a drama.
Despite his protests and claims of poor health, the court directed that Yadav be taken to jail, and he was carried on the cot to serve his sentence. The unusual scene of a cot-bound accused entering the courtroom has sparked widespread discussion among lawyers and court visitors.
