Ghaziabad: The city’s traffic is now being closely monitored through the Integrated Traffic Management System (ITMS), which allows authorities to penalize negligent drivers in real-time. On 1 February alone, ITMS issued a total of 326 challans, with the majority—302—being for riders not wearing helmets.
Modern Surveillance for Safer Roads
The ITMS relies on high-definition and Caesar cameras installed at major intersections. These cameras automatically detect vehicles that cross stop lines or enter the camera range without helmets. The system scans the vehicle’s number plate and retrieves the owner’s information from the database, after which a challan message is sent directly to the registered mobile number of the vehicle owner.
Municipal Commissioner Vikramaditya Malik stated that “discipline in traffic is difficult to enforce unless there is a financial consequence for violations.” Recent data indicates that two-wheeler riders account for most traffic violations in the city. He added that monitoring will be further intensified in the coming days to reduce accidents.
Challan Details
- 302 challans issued for riding without a helmet
- 14 challans issued for violating traffic signals
- 10 challans issued for carrying three riders on a two-wheeler
The ITMS system, operational since 1 February, ensures that traffic rules are enforced consistently, even when violators evade police officers on the roads. Authorities hope this strict monitoring will help curb accidents and encourage compliance with traffic regulations.
