Ghaziabad: The shocking death of three minor sisters who allegedly jumped from the ninth floor of a high-rise apartment in Ghaziabad has taken a new turn, as fresh revelations about the family’s financial crisis have surfaced. The incident has not only stunned residents but has also left investigating officials struggling to determine the exact reason behind the tragedy.
The three sisters, all under the age of 16, died after falling from the balcony of their ninth-floor flat at around 2 a.m. Their father initially claimed that the girls were playing a Korean game that involved a series of dangerous tasks, with suicide allegedly being the final challenge. However, by evening, police denied the existence of such a game and said no evidence supporting this claim had been found so far.
Police Suspect Multiple Factors
According to police officials, the case appears to involve multiple contributing factors. While the girls were reportedly deeply influenced by emotional Korean dramas, investigators believe the family’s internal struggles—especially financial pressure—may have played a critical role.
Police sources revealed that the girls’ father, Chetan Kumar, is a stock trader and is currently burdened with a debt of nearly ₹2 crore. Investigators also stated that he allegedly sold the children’s mobile phones to pay pending electricity bills. Reports suggest that the father had even threatened the girls by saying he would get them married soon.
Mobile Phone Access Stopped Before Incident
Police further stated that Chetan Kumar had stopped giving his phone to his daughters last week, preventing them from watching Korean dramas and shows. Investigators believe that the sudden restriction may have emotionally disturbed the girls, who were reportedly addicted to this content.
Family Background Raises Further Questions
Another factor that has added complexity to the case is the family structure. Police confirmed that Chetan Kumar has two wives, and his second wife is reportedly the sister of his first wife. He has one son and one daughter from the first marriage, and three daughters from the second marriage.
Police officials said the family’s economic condition was unstable, and the girls had not been attending school even after the COVID-19 pandemic. Investigators suspect that the financial burden and domestic stress may have deeply impacted the children’s mental state.
Room Found Locked, Suicide Note Recovered
Police found the girls’ room locked from inside and had to break open the door. Inside, officials recovered an eight-page pocket notebook which reportedly contained emotional writings resembling poetry and film dialogues. Several family photographs were also found arranged in a circle.
A mobile phone was recovered from the room, whose wallpaper reportedly showed the three sisters with Korean-style names written on it, indicating their intense attachment to Korean culture.
Blue Whale-Like Angle Under Probe
Although police have not confirmed any dangerous online game connection, the case has drawn comparisons to the infamous ‘Blue Whale Challenge’, which was linked to suicides in the past. Officials said all possible angles are being investigated thoroughly.
Investigation Continues
Police suspect that the incident may have resulted from a combination of factors—emotional vulnerability, obsession with Korean dramas, lack of schooling, strict restrictions, and severe financial distress within the family.
Authorities have assured that the investigation is ongoing and every aspect will be examined before reaching any final conclusion.
