Ghaziabad Schools Launch Helmet Drive: Teachers Without Helmets Denied Entry, Students to Learn Traffic Rules

Ghaziabad: In a bid to strengthen road safety awareness, the Ghaziabad Education Department has announced a strict traffic safety campaign in government schools. Starting 15 January, teachers and staff arriving on two-wheelers without helmets will be denied entry to school premises. The campaign, running until 31 January, will also educate students on traffic rules through their curriculum.

Zero Tolerance for Violations:
With schools reopening after winter vacation on 15 January, the Education Department has issued directives making school principals responsible for enforcing discipline. Teachers and staff violating the helmet rule will be required to submit a written explanation to the department.

Training for Teachers:
Basic Education Officer (BSA) O.P. Yadav stated that teachers will receive specialized training through master trainers to ensure proper implementation. Schools will also display traffic safety rules on walls through paintings and posters, promoting awareness among both students and staff.

Student Engagement:
Students will be taught safe travel practices through classroom lessons, and efforts will be made to educate those under 18 not to operate vehicles. Competitions such as speeches and art contests will be organized to engage students actively in road safety education. “The aim is to encourage students to not only follow traffic rules themselves but also influence their parents and family members to practice road safety,” said O.P. Yadav.

Focus on School Vehicle Safety:
The directives also emphasize regular health and eye check-ups for school vehicle drivers, underlining the department’s commitment to student safety. Currently, the campaign applies primarily to government schools, with private schools not included under the initial order. Preparations for the drive are already underway across Ghaziabad government schools.
