In a late-night operation on the Delhi-Saharanpur Highway, Ghaziabad police successfully arrested two notorious hitmen with a bounty of ₹25,000 each on their heads. The encounter occurred near Garhi Katiaiya while police were conducting routine checks on the service lane.
According to officials, intelligence sources informed the police that the suspects, wanted for a recent murder in the Dabur Talab area, were travelling on a motorcycle towards the Sabhapur underpass. The police immediately set up a cordon and began checking vehicles in the area.
When the suspects appeared on a motorcycle, the police signaled them to stop. The rear passenger fired at the police, prompting a chase. During the crossfire, the rear passenger sustained a gunshot wound in his right leg, while the rider was also apprehended on the spot.
During interrogation, the suspects identified themselves as Afsar (injured) and Shehzad. Both are seasoned criminals with multiple cases of robbery and theft registered against them across different states. Police also recovered a stolen motorcycle, a pistol, and cartridges from them.
ACPP Ankur Vihar, Gyan Prakash Rai, stated that the duo had fatally shot Sunil Kumar, a resident of DLF, in SLF Ved Vihar on 11 December. Both suspects have now been booked under the murder case registered at Ankur Vihar police station, and further legal proceedings are underway.
This successful operation underscores the Ghaziabad police’s vigilance and commitment to curbing organized crime in the region.
