Ghaziabad Police Bust Fake Liv-52 Syndicate, 5 Arrested Including Paramedical Student

Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh: Ghaziabad police have uncovered a major counterfeit medicine racket manufacturing fake liver tablets, including copies of the well-known Himalayan Liv-52. Five accused, including the gang leader and a paramedical student, have been arrested.

Operation and Seizure

The investigation revealed that the gang operated from a lab in Sonipat, producing counterfeit Liv-52 tablets and supplying them across several districts, including Aligarh, Mathura, Bijnor, Agra, Meerut, and Shamli. Police seized:

  • 50,000 fake tablets
  • 1,200 white empty boxes and caps
  • 500 printed wrappers
  • One car

Fraud Using Himalayan Company Name

The gang used the name of the Himalayan Wellness Company to sell the fake tablets illegally. The company filed a complaint in January at Muradnagar Police Station, prompting a case under fraud and copyright law.

DCP Dehat Surendra Nath Tiwari identified the arrested suspects:

  • Mayank Agarwal, resident of Tibra Road, Modinagar
  • Anup Garg, resident of Uttam Nagar, Delhi
  • Tushar Thakur, resident of Subhash Nagar
  • Akash Thakur, resident of Hindon Vihar
  • Nitin Tyagi, resident of Niwari

Company representatives first learned about the sale of fake tablets from Aligarh, which led to the raid.

Organized Supply Chain

The gang reportedly began operations four months ago. They procured counterfeit Liv-52 tablets from Subco Laboratories, Sonipat, white boxes and caps from Ekta Plastic Industries, Meerut, printed wrappers from a press near Khairnagar Chaupla, and dye-making equipment from Shakeel in Jamanagar, Naveen Mandi.

Each member had a defined role:

  • Nitin Tyagi: Owned a medical store in Modinagar
  • Mayank Agarwal: Former medical representative
  • Anup Garg: Relative of Mayank Agarwal
  • Tushar Thakur: Paramedical student
  • Akash Thakur: Assisted in supply

Drug Control Department’s Action

Drug Inspector Ashutosh Mishra said the department has been actively cracking down on counterfeit medicines, suspending licenses of several medical stores in recent months. However, the rise of counterfeit medicine production in Ghaziabad, including fake cancer drugs and prohibited cough syrups in small units across Loni, Kheda, and Indirapuram, raises concerns about enforcement effectiveness. These fake drugs are being distributed widely across northern India.
