Ghaziabad: In a decisive crackdown against illegal encroachments, Mayor Sunita Dayal of Ghaziabad has reclaimed nearly ₹220 crore worth of municipal land across the city. The mayor personally supervised the surveying of the land in Bonja, Sihani, and Sudamapuri, ensuring prompt action against encroachers. The sudden operation created a stir in these areas, with municipal bulldozers demolishing unauthorized constructions.
Bonja: Bulldozers Flatten Illegal Structures
The inspection began at Patel Marg, Bonja, covering plots Khasra 282, 283, 284, 285, and 308—approximately four bighas of land valued at around ₹30 crore. The land had been illegally occupied for private businesses, car parking, vegetable cultivation, and stone-sand trading. Mayor Dayal emphasized that the municipal corporation plans to develop these lands for public markets. Several illegal structures were promptly demolished by the corporation’s bulldozers.
When some encroachers requested a grace period to remove their belongings and livestock, the mayor firmly refused, stating:
“Habits of encroaching on government land must end. No leniency will be granted. Responsibility lies entirely with those who violate the law.”
She also instructed municipal officials to file a report against local revenue officers who had allowed unauthorized constructions.
Sihani: Court-Stayed Land Also Reclaimed
The mayor’s team then reached Sihani village, where over 32 bighas of land, valued at around ₹160 crore, were illegally occupied by Selec Tyagi, Rajeshwar Tyagi, Nishant Tyagi, and Mohit Tyagi. These individuals were reportedly earning substantial income from commercial activities on municipal land. Despite court stays on parts of the land, Mayor Dayal ordered immediate legal action and bulldozer deployment to remove unauthorized structures.
Sudamapuri: ₹30 Crore Land Freed
In Sudamapuri, around four bighas of land near Double Tank, Single Tank, municipal shelters, and local temples, worth approximately ₹30 crore, were also freed from illegal occupation. Encroachers were given a final warning to vacate within two days, failing which all unauthorized structures would be demolished, with responsibility solely on them. The municipal corporation will commence planned development on these reclaimed plots once surveying is completed.
Mayor Dayal’s strong and proactive stance demonstrates the city administration’s zero-tolerance policy against illegal occupation and sets a precedent for municipal land management across Ghaziabad.
