Ghaziabad May See Hike in Long-Distance Bus Fares; Linked to Kaushambi Depot’s Development Plan

Ghaziabad: Fares for long-distance buses operating from Ghaziabad may soon increase, with the proposed development of the Kaushambi Bus Depot emerging as the primary factor behind the projected hike. As part of a major upgrade plan, operations at Kaushambi will shift temporarily, leading to added costs that transport operators are expected to pass on to passengers.

PPP Model Work to Begin; Operations Shift to Anand Vihar

Under the new Public–Private Partnership (PPP) model, redevelopment work at the Kaushambi depot is scheduled to begin early next year. During this period, all long-distance buses will be shifted to Delhi’s Anand Vihar Bus Terminal.
To operate from Anand Vihar, Uttar Pradesh Roadways buses must pay parking fees to the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC). Operators are expected to incorporate this additional expense into the fare structure, resulting in a likely increase.

78 Long-Distance Buses to Be Impacted

The Transport Department has completed the blueprint for the Kaushambi redevelopment as well as the detailed plan to operate buses from Anand Vihar.
A total of 78 long-distance buses will run daily from the Delhi terminal.
Due to the higher parking fees in Anand Vihar compared to Kaushambi, passengers may see a fare hike of ₹15–₹20 per ticket.
This increased fare will remain in effect until the Kaushambi depot project is completed.

Local Buses to Operate from Workshop Area

Short-distance and intra-state buses from Ghaziabad are expected to be operated from the workshop area located behind the Kaushambi depot.
Regional Manager K.N. Chaudhary said bus fares from Anand Vihar are naturally slightly higher compared to Kaushambi. “We will attempt to minimize the number of buses shifted to Anand Vihar so that the burden on passengers remains as low as possible,” he added.

World-Class Facilities Planned at Kaushambi Depot

The Kaushambi depot redevelopment will be executed by Omaxe under the PPP model. The Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) has already approved the architectural layout.
Key features include:

  • 30 modern bus platforms
  • Parking for 375 cars and 150 two-wheelers
  • Waiting area for 100 passengers
  • Emergency care & medical pharmacy
  • Kiosk machines, food court, LED screens
  • Advanced security systems and modern architectural design

Authorities claim that once completed, the Kaushambi Bus Depot will offer world-class passenger facilities, easing travel and elevating Ghaziabad’s transport infrastructure.
