Ghaziabad: Expansion Work Begins at Hindon Airport Terminal, Passenger Facilities to Improve with ₹8.5 Crore Project

The long-awaited expansion of the Hindon Airport terminal has officially commenced, marking a significant step toward strengthening aviation infrastructure and improving passenger amenities in the National Capital Region.

The project, being executed at an estimated cost of ₹8.5 crore, aims to enhance security arrangements at the main entry gate while significantly upgrading facilities for travelers. The expansion work is scheduled to be completed within eight months.

According to Dr. Chilka Mahesh, Director of the Hindon Airport Authority, the terminal expansion will be carried out in two phases. In the first phase, the terminal building will be extended nine metres forward from the main entry gate, increasing the airport’s total built-up area by approximately 800 square metres.

The second phase involves the acquisition of over six acres of land for large-scale expansion of the airport. While the proposal is currently in the pipeline, officials stated that the groundwork for future development is being planned simultaneously.

Wider Access Road and Improved Traffic Management

As part of the expansion, the airport’s main access road will be widened to four lanes over a stretch of 120 metres, with a total width of 14.5 metres. A 1.5-metre-wide pedestrian footpath will also be constructed, along with a new 8.5-metre-wide curbside area for vehicle halting, ensuring smoother traffic flow and safer passenger movement.

To further strengthen security, the number of CCTV cameras will be increased, and a new office for the Chief Security Officer will be established within the terminal premises.

The construction agency has already begun site measurement and soil testing, indicating that work has moved into the active execution stage.

Boost to Passenger Comfort and Airport Operations

Officials stated that the expansion will not only reinforce security at the terminal entrance but also substantially enhance passenger convenience. Additionally, the upgraded infrastructure is expected to streamline internal airport operations and improve the efficiency of administrative functioning.

With air traffic steadily increasing, the Hindon Airport expansion is seen as a crucial development that will help meet future passenger demand and elevate the overall travel experience in the region.
