Ghaziabad DM Sets Example of Compassion, Pays Poor Farmer’s Electricity Bill from His Own Pocket

Ghaziabad: In an era often marked by complaints of administrative apathy, Ghaziabad District Magistrate (DM) IAS Ravindra Kumar Mandar has won public admiration by setting a powerful example of empathy and responsive governance. During a public grievance hearing at the Collectorate, the DM not only directed officials to expedite pending matters but also personally stepped in to help those in distress.

A poor farmer who approached the DM shared that his financial condition was so dire that he was unable to pay his pending electricity bill. Moved by the farmer’s plight, DM Mandar immediately extended financial assistance of ₹5,100 from his own pocket, enabling the farmer to clear the dues. The gesture was widely seen as a rare display of humanity from a senior bureaucrat.

In another case, an elderly woman named Shashi Tyagi broke down while narrating her ordeal. After the death of her husband and son, she alleged that her in-laws were attempting to illegally seize her land. Taking the matter seriously, the DM directly called the SDM of Loni and issued strict instructions for a thorough inquiry. He emphasized that justice must be delivered promptly and strictly in accordance with the law.

A large number of farmers and citizens attended the public hearing, presenting their grievances related to land, revenue, and administrative delays. The DM patiently heard each complaint and assured timely resolution.

Speaking on the occasion, DM Ravindra Kumar Mandar said that serving the people and addressing their problems efficiently is his foremost priority. He urged citizens to submit written complaints without hesitation, assuring them that the administration would provide every possible help within the legal framework.

Senior officials including City Magistrate Dr. Santosh Kumar Upadhyay, trainee IAS Ayaan Jain, District Information Officer Yogendra Pratap Singh, and other administrative staff were present during the hearing.
