Ghaziabad: Another Stain on the Khaki—Two Constables Suspended for Alleged Assault and Extortion

In yet another incident tarnishing the image of the police force, two constables posted at the Indirapuram police station in Ghaziabad have been suspended for allegedly detaining, assaulting, and demanding money from a civilian. A departmental inquiry has also been initiated after preliminary investigations found the allegations to be prima facie true.

The victim, Mithun Raghav, a resident of Vasundhara Sector-13, alleged that on December 19, two constables—Gaurav and Sandeep—arrived at his residence in plain clothes and forcibly took him to the police station in connection with a personal dispute. Mithun claimed that he was illegally detained, physically assaulted, and pressured to pay money in exchange for his release.

Mithun further informed senior police officials that he has an ongoing financial dispute worth ₹1 lakh with his cousin, Rahul. He alleged that Rahul had prior connections with the two constables and had threatened him earlier. According to the complaint, the constables acted at Rahul’s behest after receiving a phone call from him.

Following the complaint, DCP Trans-Hindon, Nimesh Patil, ordered an inquiry, which was conducted by ACP Indirapuram Abhishek Srivastava. The investigation revealed serious procedural lapses. The constables allegedly failed to make a General Diary (GD) entry while bringing the complainant to the police station and also violated established protocols while releasing him.

While the inquiry did not conclusively establish that money was demanded or accepted, it confirmed misconduct, misuse of authority, and violation of police procedure. Based on these findings, both constables were suspended with immediate effect.

DCP Nimesh Patil stated, “The conduct of the constables in handling a dispute was improper and amounted to indiscipline. Both have been suspended, and departmental proceedings are underway.”

The accused constables have denied all allegations.

Series of Incidents Raise Concern

This incident adds to a growing list of recent cases involving police personnel in Ghaziabad and nearby areas. Earlier this month, a Delhi Police constable was arrested in Shalimar Garden for snatching a woman’s earrings, while another constable posted with Delhi’s cyber cell was arrested for causing an accident using a stolen vehicle.

These repeated incidents have once again raised serious questions about police accountability, misuse of power, and internal discipline, prompting calls for stricter monitoring and swift action to restore public trust in law enforcement.
