Ghaziabad: The Ghaziabad district administration has introduced a major relief for voters and Booth Level Officers (BLOs) engaged in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll. Matching names from the old 2003 voter list—so far a difficult and time-consuming task—will now become significantly easier.
Voter List Being Converted Into Excel Format
Until now, BLOs had to search through massive PDF files containing thousands of names, making verification extremely challenging. To resolve this, the administration has started converting scanned voter lists into Excel files, allowing quicker digital search and smoother name matching.
Challenge With the 2003 Records
Additional District Magistrate (Finance & Revenue) Saurabh Bhatt explained that due to the difficulties in comparing names with the 2003 voter list, both voters and BLOs were leaving several information fields blank on the SIR forms. Since the Election Commission’s website does not currently offer a search feature for this data, completing the campaign on time had become difficult.
13 BLOs Booked for Negligence
In a strict move, 13 BLOs have been booked for negligence during the SIR drive. A report published in NBT highlighted complaints from residents that some BLOs were not visiting households as required.
ADM (Finance/Revenue) and Deputy District Election Officer Saurabh Bhatt said BLOs were instructed to collect forms door-to-door and digitize them using the BLO app. Despite this, several BLOs failed to perform their duties, leading the SDM/ERO of Sahibabad (Assembly Constituency 55) to initiate legal action.
