New Delhi: Delhi is all set to get a 53-kilometer cycling corridor along the Yamuna River, a project aimed at promoting green mobility, tourism, and public health. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta recently reviewed the progress of the Yamuna Cycling Corridor project in a meeting with senior officials from DDA and the state government.
Three-Phase Project
The corridor will be constructed in three phases over three years. The first phase will stretch from the old Yamuna railway bridge to NH-24, the second phase from NH-24 to Kalindi Kunj Yamuna Biodiversity Park, and the third phase from Wazirabad Yamuna Barrage back to the old railway bridge. The corridor will run along both banks of the Yamuna, offering cyclists a scenic and eco-friendly route.
Clearances and Approvals
Officials confirmed that most clearances from departments like PWD and Irrigation & Flood Control have already been secured. The only pending approval is from the Railway Department for constructing the cycle track near the old railway bridge across the Yamuna. Formal preparations for starting construction are now in the final stage.
CM Highlights Benefits
CM Rekha Gupta emphasized that the corridor will not only promote eco-tourism and environmental protection but also reduce urban traffic pressure and carbon emissions. She called the project a historic initiative for enhancing Delhi’s green mobility infrastructure and improving citizen amenities. CM Gupta instructed all departments to prioritize the project and ensure smooth coordination to complete all three phases within three years.
Sustainability and Safety Focus
Officials highlighted that the corridor’s construction will adhere strictly to quality, safety, and environmental standards, ensuring no compromises in any aspect of the project.
