Gangster Act Invoked Against 8 Accused in Ghaziabad Mandi Firing Case; Two Injured in August Incident

Ghaziabad:
In a major crackdown, Ghaziabad Police have invoked the Gangster Act against eight accused involved in the firing incident that took place on 11 August at the Naveen Fruit & Vegetable Market located in the Link Road police station area. A video of the firing had gone viral on social media, prompting widespread criticism and swift police action.

Police Commissioner issued orders to take strict action against Loni-based history-sheeter Harish Chaudhary and seven others — Anurag, Prince, Raj, Prashant, Arjun Chaudhary, Aman Chaudhary, and Abhay.

Firing Triggered by Heated Dispute in Mandi Committee Meeting

The violence stemmed from tensions during a Mandi Committee meeting held on 11 August, following a viral video of Congress leader Bijendra Yadav a day earlier. According to officials, the confrontation escalated when allegedly objectionable remarks were made about the Mandi Secretary and his wife, leading to open firing inside the market premises.

A video also surfaced showing history-sheeter Harish Chaudhary firing shots, which intensified public outrage. Police arrested Harish Chaudhary and seven others the same night.

Dispute Originated a Day Earlier

The conflict traces back to the night of 10 August, when Harish Chaudhary’s son was reportedly stopped from setting up a stall in the mandi. Harish accused Bijendra Yadav and other commission agents of demanding ₹50,000 per month from him. The issue was scheduled for discussion in the committee meeting on 11 August, where the situation spiraled into violence.

Two individuals sustained bullet injuries during the firing.

Gangster Act Enforced After Investigation

On 22 November, following the Police Commissioner’s recommendation, the stringent Gangster Act was formally imposed on all eight accused.

ACP Sahibabad Shweta Yadav confirmed that more individuals involved in the incident are being identified and action will follow.
