Shivpuri: A shocking incident at the Muktidham cemetery in Shivpuri, part of Jyotiraditya Scindia’s parliamentary constituency, has highlighted glaring administrative and infrastructure deficiencies. During a recent funeral, the power went out, forcing the family and attendees to rely on mobile phone torches to bid their last farewell to the deceased. The incident has sparked outrage among local residents and raised questions about the effectiveness of development initiatives in the area.
Complete Darkness at the Cemetery
After the death of Halku Ram Soni, residents took his body to Shivpuri’s Muktidham for cremation. Upon arrival, the cemetery was shrouded in complete darkness. Neither streetlights nor any alternative lighting was available, compelling the attendees to use their mobile phone flashlights to complete the funeral rituals. Family members reported that repeated calls to the municipal authorities and the electricity department went unanswered, adding to their distress during this already difficult time.
Residents Express Anger
Local residents expressed strong discontent over the situation. “While colonies and farmhouses in the city shine under municipal lights, sensitive and important places like Muktidham are repeatedly neglected,” said Shaligram Soni, son of the deceased. He described the emotional toll on the family as they had to conduct the funeral under torchlight, despite notifying authorities in advance.
Municipal Authorities Respond
Following the viral video of the incident on social media, municipal officials have responded. Ishank Dhakad, CMO of the municipal corporation, acknowledged the lack of electricity at Muktidham and assured that proper lighting would be installed soon. The incident, however, has raised serious questions about the actual progress of civic development in the region, particularly in the area represented by Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia.
