From Unemployment to Entrepreneurship: Sitamarhi Youth Strikes Gold with Fish Farming

Sitamarhi: At a time when many youth despair over unemployment and job shortages, Govind Kumar of Bhoreha village in Belasand block, Sitamarhi, has become a shining example of self-reliance and entrepreneurship. Rather than lamenting the lack of government or private sector jobs, Govind chose to carve his own path—and today, he earns lakhs annually through fish farming.

A Bold Step Toward Independence
Even during his student days, Govind exhibited a strong desire to achieve something unique. He initially started his career with a private finance company but soon realized his dream lay elsewhere. With family support and careful planning, he left the job and ventured into fish farming—a decision that completely transformed his life.

Hard Work, Innovation, and Vision
Govind now manages his own pond using modern techniques, scientific methods, and efficient management practices. His dedication has turned him into a role model for choosing new avenues and pursuing them with perseverance.

Profitable Fish Production
Currently, Govind produces fish worth approximately ₹14–15 lakh annually, with net savings of ₹6–8 lakh per year after expenses. He explains that his previous salary was limited, but the income from fish farming has far exceeded his expectations.

Expanding Reach Beyond Sitamarhi
His fish supply extends beyond Sitamarhi to Shivhar and Muzaffarpur districts. Govind attributes his success to consistent monitoring, balanced feed, clean water, and expert guidance. What was once considered a low-profit sector—agriculture and aquaculture—is now opening new opportunities for local youth.

Creating Jobs and Inspiring Others
Govind employs three to four workers regularly, supporting other families while boosting local employment. Inspired by him, many young villagers are exploring fish farming and agriculture-based entrepreneurship. Govind encourages them, emphasizing that with proper planning, effort, and modern techniques, this field has enormous potential.

Vision for the Future
Govind Kumar’s story proves that even rural youth can build a golden future through hard work, innovative thinking, and strategic use of government schemes and technical support. His goal is to increase production, expand the use of modern equipment, and elevate the reputation of his village and district through aquaculture.
