The IPL 2026 auction has brought joy and pride to Mau, Uttar Pradesh, as 24-year-old left-arm fast bowler Mangesh Yadav has been acquired by Challengers Bengaluru for ₹5.20 crore. This makes him the second player from Mau to enter the IPL this season, following Ravi Singh, who was bought by Rajasthan Royals for ₹95 lakh.
A Journey of Struggle and Determination
Mangesh Yadav hails from a humble family. His father, Ramavadh Yadav, moved the family—including wife Rita Yadav, daughters Payal, Priya, Kajal, and Mangesh—from their ancestral village in Kaithwali, Mau to Pandhurna, Madhya Pradesh, where he worked as a truck driver. Growing up in modest circumstances, Mangesh’s interest in cricket far outweighed academics, and his determination stood out even in challenging times.
Family Pride and Emotional Moment
Speaking to NBT Online, a visibly emotional Ramavadh Yadav said, “We have been waiting for this day. Today, my heart swells with pride knowing that my son will represent Mau, Uttar Pradesh, and India on the cricket field.” The family, along with his ancestral village, is celebrating Mangesh’s achievement, recognizing it as a reward for his relentless hard work and dedication.
Rise Through Domestic Cricket
Mangesh made a mark in the Madhya Pradesh T20 League, representing the Gwalior Cheetahs. He emerged as the highest wicket-taker, claiming 14 wickets in 21 overs, including three four-wicket hauls. In addition to his bowling prowess, he impressed with his batting during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, scoring 28 runs in just 12 balls in one of the Super League matches. His all-round performance caught the attention of IPL scouts, earning him a place in the prestigious league.
A New Chapter Begins
With this IPL selection, Mangesh Yadav’s journey from a small-town boy with humble beginnings to a nationally recognized cricketer serves as an inspiring story of perseverance, talent, and family support. As he steps onto the IPL stage, his success brings hope and motivation to countless young athletes from similar backgrounds.
