Pune: The results of the Maharashtra local body elections have brought several inspiring stories to the forefront. One such story is of Bhagyashree Jagtap, a humble fruit seller from the popular hill station of Lonavala, who has been elected as a member of the Lonavala Municipal Council (LMC).
Bhagyashree, a candidate of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) led by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, defeated her closest rival from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to win the council seat. She secured 1,468 votes, surpassing BJP candidate Rachna Sinker, who received 800 votes, winning by a margin of 608 votes.
Staying Grounded After Victory
Remarkably, the day after her victory, Bhagyashree chose not to participate in congratulatory ceremonies. Instead, she returned to her fruit stall, continuing her daily routine of selling fruits. She stated, “Selling fruits has been our family’s traditional business for years. Even after becoming a councilor, I will continue this work while serving the community.”
Commitment to Public Service and Family Business
Bhagyashree emphasized that she will balance her responsibilities as a councilor with her family business. She said, “I will work to raise people’s issues and resolve their complaints in the council, but my livelihood depends on our fruit business, so I will continue it as well.”
Her husband, Mahadev Jagtap, also expressed full support for her dual role, saying he will manage the family business while Bhagyashree focuses on addressing the concerns of Lonavala residents and local issues at council meetings.
Bhagyashree Jagtap’s story serves as an inspiring example of dedication, humility, and balancing personal livelihood with public service.
