In his verified social media statement, Prateek Yadav publicly declared his decision to seek divorce, levelling serious allegations against Aparna Yadav and claiming his mental health has been severely affected. The relationship between Aparna and Prateek dates back to 2001, when both were students. Though they studied at the same school, they barely spoke until fate brought them together at a friend’s birthday party. After marriage, Aparna gradually stepped into active politics. Recognising her interest, Mulayam Singh Yadav gave her an opportunity in 2017, when she contested the Lucknow Cantonment विधानसभा seat on a Samajwadi Party ticket. She lost the election to BJP leader Rita Bahuguna Joshi.
Ahead of the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, Aparna Yadav left the Samajwadi Party and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party. Mulayam Singh Yadav publicly blessed her decision, though reports suggested internal differences within the family over her political shift.
