
Navsari, Gujarat: In a major crackdown, Gujarat Police’s State Monitoring Cell (SMC) apprehended four members of the notorious ‘Ravan Gang’ from Madhya Pradesh during a confrontation in Bilimora town, Navsari district, on Tuesday. The gang members were reportedly meeting to execute an illegal weapons deal and had plans to commit crimes in Mumbai and Madhya Pradesh.
Arrested Individuals
The arrested individuals have been identified as:
- Rishabh Ashok Sharma, aka Ravan (Madhya Pradesh)
- Yash Singh Sundersingh (Haryana)
- Manish Kaluram Kumawat (Rajasthan)
- Madan Gopiram Kumawat (Rajasthan)
According to police sources, Manish and Madan were initially caught near a hotel close to Bilimora Railway Station based on a tip-off. During interrogation, they revealed the hideouts of their accomplices, leading police to a parking area near Mahadev Temple, where the remaining two gang members were located.
Gunfire Exchange
When police asked the remaining suspects to surrender, Yash Singh fired two rounds at the officers. In the return fire, Inspector C.H. Panara shot Yash Singh in the leg. He was later admitted to the hospital and discharged after treatment. Following the confrontation, police seized three pistols and 25 cartridges.
All four suspects have been booked under the Arms Act and for attempt to murder at the SMC Police Station in Gandhinagar. They are scheduled to be presented before the Gandevi court in Navsari district on Wednesday evening and will be sent to police custody for further investigation.
Gang Network and Criminal Activities
DIG Niralipt Rai stated that the gang, led by Rishabh Sharma aka Ravan, is involved in murder, drug trafficking, extortion, and illegal arms trading across Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. Manish Kumawat, residing in Bilimora for the past four years, was tasked with sourcing weapons for crimes planned in Mumbai and was also reportedly planning a jewelry store robbery in Madhya Pradesh. Madan Kumawat, in contact with a Mumbai gangster, along with the others, carried weapons by train to Bilimora. Police also revealed that Manish ran a small grocery shop in Bilimora with his wife and 12-year-old son.
Next Steps
Police are now investigating whether the gang has an active network in Gujarat and whether they had planned any criminal operations in the state. Further information about their criminal network is expected to emerge during interrogation.
