Four Fake Doctors Arrested for Swindling Crores by Ordering Expensive Medicines Using Fake Cheques

Ghaziabad: Police in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, have busted a gang that posed as doctors from reputed hospitals to order expensive medicines from medical stores, only to hand over fake cheques and flee. A joint operation by the SWAT team and the Crime Branch led to the arrest of four gang members. Authorities recovered high-value medicines, multiple SIM cards, and mobile phones from their possession.

ADC(P) Crime Piyush Singh stated that the accused used to call medical stores, claiming to be senior doctors, HODs, or other medical staff from well-known hospitals. They leveraged these hospital names to gain trust and demanded immediate delivery of medicines. Once the medicines were delivered, the gang would hand over fake cheques. By the time store owners realized the cheques had bounced, the criminals had already fled to another city.

Mukesh Taneja the Mastermind
Police received intelligence that the gang was active in the Kotwali police station area. Officers intercepted the four accused near the Malgodam Road, close to the railway station. The arrested individuals have been identified as Mukesh Taneja, Amit Khurana, Deep Singh Chug, and Mukesh Akharia alias Sundar. Mukesh Taneja is the gang’s ringleader and has previously served time in Delhi’s Rohini area for similar fraud.

Changing SIMs to Evade Detection
Authorities recovered over 30 high-value medicines, several mobile phones, and multiple SIM cards from the gang members. The gang frequently switched SIM cards to hide their identity while committing fraud in different cities.

Over 50 Medical Stores Targeted Across India
According to ADC(P), the gang collected contact numbers of pharmacies through online platforms like IndiaMART and executed fraudulent orders. So far, they have defrauded medical stores in Delhi-NCR, Jaipur, Surat, Ahmedabad, Bhopal, and other cities, targeting over 50 stores and swindling medicines worth crores of rupees.

Cases against the gang have already been registered at Kotwali and Sihani Gate police stations. The police are now searching for other gang members and investigating the supply chain of the recovered medicines.
