Former MLA Triggers Outrage at Bhopal Convention with Abusive Remarks, Threats Against Storytellers and Saints

A major controversy erupted in Bhopal after former MLA R.D. Prajapati made a series of highly provocative and abusive statements during an OBC–SC–ST joint convention, drawing sharp criticism from political circles, religious groups, and civil society.

The incident took place at the Dussehra Ground in the BHEL area, where the convention was organised in support of IAS officer Santosh Verma and to raise various social demands, including issues related to reservation. However, Prajapati’s speech overshadowed the event and shifted focus entirely due to its inflammatory content.

Objectionable Remarks from the Stage

R.D. Prajapati, a former MLA from the Chandla Assembly constituency in Chhatarpur district, allegedly lost his composure while addressing the gathering. Targeting religious storytellers (kathavachaks), he made an offensive statement suggesting they should be “paraded naked with a garland of shoes,” remarks that shocked many present at the venue.

He also made objectionable comments about women, which reportedly caused visible discomfort among sections of the audience.

Attack on Religious Figures

The former legislator further escalated the controversy by referring to Jagadguru Rambhadracharya with a derogatory term, triggering widespread anger among religious organisations and members of the saint community. He also criticised prominent storytellers Dhirendra Shastri and Aniruddha Acharya, accusing certain religious figures of promoting attitudes that, according to him, undermine the dignity of women and send the wrong message to society.

These remarks led to strong reactions from saints and religious bodies, who termed the statements insulting and unacceptable.

Controversial Reference to Dr. Ambedkar

In another highly contentious claim, Prajapati invoked Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, stating that in 1950 “all queens were sterilised so that there would be no kings anymore.” The statement has been widely criticised as factually incorrect and disrespectful, further intensifying the backlash against him.

Video Shared on Social Media

Prajapati later shared a video of his speech on Facebook, stating that he had addressed a massive public meeting organised under the joint banner of OBC Mahasabha, JAIYAS, Bhim Army, and AJAKS Apex. He said the rally was held under the slogan “Save the Constitution, Save Reservation,” in support of IAS officer Santosh Verma, for 27% OBC reservation, and for the installation of Dr. Ambedkar’s statue at the Gwalior High Court.

Growing Demands for Action

Following the viral spread of the video clips, demands have grown for legal and political action against Prajapati. Critics argue that such language from a public figure not only demeans democratic discourse but also risks disturbing social harmony.

As of now, no official response has been announced by authorities regarding possible action, but the controversy continues to escalate, keeping the political and social atmosphere tense in Madhya Pradesh.
