Former DGP Alok Raj Resigns as BSSC Chairman Just Two Days After Joining

Patna, Bihar: In a surprising administrative development, former Bihar DGP and senior IPS officer Alok Raj has resigned from his position as Chairman of the Bihar Staff Selection Commission (BSSC), citing personal reasons. He submitted his resignation to the Department of General Administration just two days after assuming office.

Sudden Resignation Confirmed
Speaking to a television channel over the phone, Alok Raj confirmed his resignation, stating that it was due to personal reasons. His abrupt decision has sparked discussions across administrative and political circles in Bihar.

Appointment as BSSC Chairman
Alok Raj was appointed BSSC Chairman by the Nitish Kumar-led government on December 31, 2025, immediately after retiring from his role as Director General (DG) of Bihar Police Building Construction Corporation. The notification from the Department of General Administration had indicated that he would serve a tenure of five years or until reaching the age of 65, making his resignation within two days highly unexpected.

A Senior and Respected Officer
A 1989 batch IPS officer, Alok Raj has been considered one of the most reliable and senior officers in Bihar Police. During his tenure, he spearheaded several critical projects related to police infrastructure and was known as a strict and disciplined administrator.

Context of the Resignation
The BSSC is responsible for conducting recruitment examinations for various government positions across Bihar. In recent years, controversies surrounding BSSC exams had raised questions about the commission’s functioning. Against this backdrop, Alok Raj’s sudden resignation adds a new administrative challenge for the state government.
