Foreign-Educated BTech Graduate Caught Stealing Jewelry on Trains in Bhopal

Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh: The Bhopal Railway Police have arrested a man involved in a series of thefts on trains. The accused, Pranjal Dixit, a resident of Lucknow and a foreign-returned BTech graduate from Pune, was apprehended after stealing jewelry worth ₹7 lakh from a passenger on the Rajdhani Express.

The victim, a woman traveling from Agra to Mumbai, reported that her handbag, kept beside her while she slept, was stolen during the journey. The stolen items included a gold chain, earrings, a ring, and ₹35,000 in cash, with a total value of approximately ₹3.4 lakh. She filed the complaint upon reaching Mumbai on January 20.

Railway police reviewed footage from over 200 CCTV cameras before detaining Dixit on January 30. During questioning, he admitted to four thefts on trains and disclosed that he had spent part of the stolen cash on online gaming. Jewelry recovered from his possession was returned to the victim.

Police stated that Dixit, despite his technical education and foreign exposure, resorted to theft due to financial difficulties stemming from a gambling addiction. The case highlights the growing issue of thefts on trains and the challenges posed by technologically savvy criminals.
