Fog Leads to Deadly Accident on Purvanchal Expressway in Sultanpur: 3 Laborers Dead, 7 Injured

Sultanpur (UP): A tragic road accident on the Purvanchal Expressway near the 153.500 km mark in Sultanpur late Friday night claimed the lives of three laborers and left seven others seriously injured. Dense fog was reported as a major factor in the collision. The laborers were traveling from Raebareli to Azamgarh.

According to reports, a pickup carrying 14 laborers was driven by Veeru when an unidentified truck rammed it from behind. After the collision, the truck fled towards Gazipur, and the pickup collided with a roadside barrier, overturning on impact.

Victims:

  • Ajay Kumar (30), resident of Gambhirpur, Raebareli – died on the spot
  • Kisan Pal (30), resident of Gambhirpur, Raebareli – died on the spot
  • Rajoli (35), resident of Gambhirpur, Raebareli – succumbed at Ambedkar Nagar District Hospital

Injured:
Ashok (40), Naresh Pasi (45), Ramprasad (40), Vinod (40), Dilip (35), Rajesh (40), and Raju (30) were initially treated at Dostpur Hospital before being referred to Ambedkar Nagar District Hospital for further care.

Secondary Incident During Rescue Operations:
During rescue operations, a second accident occurred due to heavy fog. A pickup carrying chickens from Sultanpur to Bihar, driven by Salman (resident of Khorpur Buzurg, Amethi), collided first with a safety cone and then with the already overturned pickup. Salman was injured and initially treated at Dostpur Hospital before being referred to Akbarpur District Hospital.

Inspector Aniruddh Singh of Dostpur confirmed that the bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem and families have been notified. Further investigation will proceed based on the FIR.
