Flights Cancelled, Highways Blocked, But Srinagar Vande Bharat Train Runs Smoothly Amid Kashmir Snowfall – A Historic Moment

Srinagar: Fresh snowfall swept across several parts of the Kashmir Valley on Friday, blanketing districts including Budgam, Baramulla, Kupwara, Shopian, Pulwama, Bandipora, Anantnag, and Kulgam. Srinagar city witnessed its first snowfall of the season, leading to widespread disruptions. The Srinagar-Jammu National Highway was temporarily closed, and numerous flights were cancelled due to adverse weather conditions.

Despite the chaos, the Vande Bharat Express running from Katra to Srinagar continued its journey uninterrupted, creating a historic moment in Kashmir’s railway history.

A Swiss-like Winter Wonderland
Passengers aboard the train described the snow-covered landscapes as “even more breathtaking than Switzerland.” Official bulletins highlighted the natural beauty of Jammu and Kashmir, often referred to as “Heaven on Earth,” as the train cut through thick blankets of snow.

Round-the-Clock Railway Efforts
Northern Railway personnel in the Jammu division worked tirelessly for 25 hours to clear snow from tracks, ensuring safe and smooth train operations despite the heavy snowfall. Rail services in the Kashmir Valley remained largely unaffected.

Historic Journey Captivates Public
Images of the Vande Bharat Express gliding through snow-laden terrain have gone viral online, with many hailing the Katra-Srinagar rail link as a long-cherished dream finally realized. Passengers expressed immense joy, with one user calling the journey “a monumental achievement” and another saying that witnessing such scenes reaffirmed that India is truly progressing.

Airlines Issue Warnings, Roads Blocked
Airlines have warned travelers about delays and disruptions. Indigo temporarily suspended take-offs and landings in Srinagar due to the snow, while SpiceJet advised that arrivals, departures, and related flights might also be affected. The Srinagar highway remained blocked, with vehicles stranded under heavy snow accumulation.
