Five Youths Escape After Car Plunges into Drain in Ghaziabad

Ghaziabad: In a dramatic accident on Thursday night, a car carrying five young men plunged into a drain near the Modinagar railway crossing in Ghaziabad district, Uttar Pradesh. The passengers broke the car windows to escape, narrowly saving their lives. Fortunately, they sustained only minor injuries. The vehicle was later recovered from the drain with the help of a crane.

The youths—Rohit Kumar and Vikas Kumar from Khanjarpur Colony, and their friends Saurabh, Gaurav, and Sujit from Chudiyala village—had gone to Meerut for work-related purposes and were returning home via the Hanumanpuri route instead of the Delhi-Meerut main road. According to reports, near Dr. K.N. Modi Global School, a motorcycle suddenly appeared in front of them. In an attempt to avoid collision, the car went out of control and fell into a drain about 10 feet deep.

Escape from the Submerged Car
Local residents reported that the car was submerged in about two feet of water. The youths bravely managed to break the front and rear windows to climb out, taking approximately 20 minutes to free themselves.

Investigation Underway
ACPI Modinagar Amit Saxena said no formal complaint has been filed yet, and the circumstances of the accident are being investigated. SDM Modinagar Ajit Singh added that a team has been dispatched to examine the scene and determine the cause.

Possible Road Damage
Locals suggested that damaged road conditions may have caused the driver to lose control, resulting in the accident. The drain where the vehicle fell is a major drainage route from the village, and the timely escape of the youths likely prevented a more serious outcome.
