Five Street Dogs Poisoned to Death in Bhopal’s Upscale Colony; Police Review CCTV Footage

Bhopal: In a shocking case of animal cruelty, five street dogs were poisoned to death in the affluent Lakshmi Complex area of Shahpura, Bhopal. The dogs, which had been playing among residents until recently, were found lifeless and writhing in a deserted field. A veterinarian confirmed that the deaths were caused by poisoning, sparking outrage among locals and animal lovers.

Discovery of the Dogs

The incident occurred on January 25 but came to wider attention on Thursday when residents reported the case to the police again. Bindu Ramakant Pandey, a local resident and animal welfare advocate, said she regularly fed the dogs. “When they did not appear on Sunday, we began searching and found two dogs and a puppy dead in a nearby open field. Two others were still alive but struggling,” she said.

Veterinarian Confirms Poisoning

The two surviving dogs were immediately taken to Dr. Arvind Nigam’s clinic in Arera Colony, but both died by evening. Preliminary examination revealed that the dogs’ organs had failed due to ingestion of a highly toxic substance.

Police Investigation Underway

Shahpura Police Station in-charge Lokendra Singh Thakur confirmed that a case has been registered and an investigation is underway. Police are reviewing CCTV footage from the colony and surrounding areas to identify the perpetrators and determine their motive. Authorities have urged residents to come forward with any information that could help catch the culprits.

“This is a serious case of deliberate cruelty against innocent animals. We are leaving no stone unturned to bring those responsible to justice,” said the officer.
