Mathura: In a serious security lapse, five adolescent girls escaped under suspicious circumstances from the Government Girls Protection Home located in Chaitanya Vihar, Vrindavan, late Monday night, triggering alarm among district authorities and the police.
The girls, aged between 14 and 17 years, reportedly covered themselves with blankets and walked out through the main gate, as captured in CCTV footage. Of the five, two girls have safely reached their homes, while a search operation is underway to trace the remaining three missing girls.
According to shelter home in-charge Gayatri Mishra, the girls went missing between 10:30 pm and 11:00 pm. The escapees have been identified as Divya (resident of Chauthaiya, Mahavan), Priyanka (Bahad Garhi, Nauhjheel), Arayna (Multani Bada, Paharganj, Delhi), Roopa (Panethi, Aligarh), while verification of the fifth girl’s identity and details of those who returned home is part of the ongoing investigation.
Security Lapse Raises Questions
Upon receiving information, SSP Shlok Kumar, along with senior administrative officials, rushed to the spot and inspected the security arrangements at the shelter home. Despite the presence of CCTV cameras and security guards, the girls managed to escape, raising serious questions about the effectiveness of security measures at the facility.
Police have sealed nearby routes and intensified search operations. Alerts have also been sent to Delhi and Aligarh police to assist in tracing the missing girls.
Investigation Underway
SSP Shlok Kumar confirmed that two girls have been safely traced and said efforts are underway to locate the remaining three. “The matter is being investigated thoroughly. Any negligence or security lapse will be examined in detail, and strict action will be taken against those found responsible,” he said.
Authorities have assured that all necessary steps are being taken to ensure the safety of the missing girls and to prevent such incidents in the future.
