The North Shahdara zone of Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD) has sealed five factories in the Joharipur area for violating regulations. These units, engaged in e-waste processing and plastic molding, were ordered to shut down immediately. Authorities had warned that failure to comply would result in sealing the entire premises.
Police Deployed to Maintain Order
To ensure the operation proceeded smoothly, police were deployed at the sites. While there were minor protests from local stakeholders, law enforcement successfully maintained control throughout the sealing process.
Notices Sent to 200 Factory Owners
Administrative officer Ramashankar stated that emissions from such factories, including smoke and chemicals, pose serious health hazards by contaminating surrounding air. Consequently, an ongoing campaign has targeted illegal and non-compliant units across Shahdara North. In November alone, approximately 200 factory owners across areas such as Mustafabad, Joharipur, Saboli, Maujpur, Ghoda, and Kabir Nagar received notices.
Ongoing Crackdown on Illegal Factories
The notices explicitly warned that non-compliance would lead to the sealing of the entire premises. Following this directive, over two dozen factories voluntarily vacated their sites. On Monday, the General Branch team sealed five factories in Joharipur. Over the past week, actions have been taken against more than 20 factories, including two denim dyeing units in Sonia Vihar. Many factory owners have approached the MCD office after receiving notices, submitting written confirmation that their units have been vacated to avoid sealing of their premises.
