Firing at Guna Crematorium: Woman Shot Amid Violent Clash During Funeral

Guna: Panic erupted in Khejrachak village of Dharanavada police station area on Wednesday when gunfire broke out at a crematorium during a funeral. A woman was shot in the chest in the incident, sparking widespread fear in the locality. Police have rushed to the scene.

Violence During Funeral Ceremony
The incident occurred during the funeral of 70-year-old Jhummar Bai Pardi, who passed away earlier Wednesday morning due to illness. According to the victim’s family, around 12–1 pm, as the family was preparing for the last rites at the crematorium, 15–16 armed assailants allegedly from the Rampujan Pardi gang launched a sudden attack. Using 315-bore rifles, the attackers opened indiscriminate fire.

In the attack, 50-year-old Morbai Pardi, wife of Khezrabai, was shot in the chest and fell to the ground in critical condition. She was immediately rushed to a private hospital in the city, where doctors are treating her life-threatening injuries.

Chaos and Panic at the Crematorium
The sudden attack triggered panic and a stampede at the crematorium. Family members and onlookers took cover behind shrubs and stones to protect themselves. The victim’s relatives alleged that besides Rampujan Pardi, individuals named Om, Krishna, Virendra, Ambar, Rajveer, Yuvraj, and Dhanraj were involved in the attack.

Long-Standing Rivalry Behind the Attack
The violent incident is reportedly rooted in a longstanding feud between the families. Last year, on 8 September, the same family lost 40-year-old Kheru Pardi, who was shot dead over a dispute that began over buffalo grazing in farmland but escalated into murder. The victim’s family claims that the opposing group has repeatedly attacked them and has carried out at least two previous instances of firing within the village.

Police Strength Deployed in Village and Hospital
Following the shooting, the police department swung into action. Morbai Pardi is under intensive medical care at the private hospital. Security forces have been deployed both at the hospital and in the village to prevent further escalation. Police have launched a search operation in Khejrachak village and surrounding forests to apprehend the accused. Dharanavada police have registered a case and initiated an investigation, but fear and tension continue to prevail in the area.
