Fevikwik Accident in Banswara School: 9-Year-Old’s Eyelids Stick Together, Referred to Udaipur for Treatment

Banswara, Rajasthan: In a serious and alarming incident at a government school in Banswara, a 9-year-old boy sustained severe eye injuries after Fevikwik (instant adhesive) accidentally entered his eyes while playing. The chemical caused both eyelids to stick together, prompting urgent medical attention and a referral to Udaipur for specialized treatment.

Incident Details

The accident occurred on Monday afternoon at the government school in Bawlia Pada village, under the Kushalgarh police station area. The boy, identified as Radheshyam, a third-grade student and son of Devisingh, was playing with classmates when Fevikwik somehow got into his eyes. Startled by the burning sensation, the child instinctively rubbed his eyes, causing the adhesive to spread across his eyelids. Within moments, both eyelids were completely stuck together.

Immediate Response

School staff, alerted by the child’s cries of intense pain, rushed to assist him. Parents were immediately informed, and Radheshyam was first taken to Kushalgarh Hospital for initial treatment. Due to the severity of the condition, he was subsequently referred to Mahatma Gandhi Hospital in Banswara.

Medical Assessment and Referral

Dr. Karvi Mehta of Mahatma Gandhi Hospital explained that Fevikwik contains highly hazardous chemicals, which caused the child’s eyelids to adhere tightly, resulting in significant pain. Since the hospital lacks specialized ophthalmic surgical facilities, Radheshyam was promptly referred to a hospital in Udaipur for urgent treatment.

Family Concerns

The child’s family expressed deep worry, repeatedly asking doctors when his eyelids would be safely separated and whether permanent damage to his eyes had occurred. Doctors emphasized the sensitivity of eye injuries involving chemical adhesives and the need for immediate intervention to prevent lasting harm.

Current Status

Radheshyam is now receiving specialized care in Udaipur, where ophthalmic surgeons will attempt to safely separate his eyelids and assess any potential damage. Authorities have urged parents and schools to exercise caution when children are around chemical adhesives.
