Banda: In a horrifying case that shook the Banda district of Uttar Pradesh, a father has been sentenced to life imprisonment for strangling his minor daughter and burying her body behind the house. The verdict comes nearly three and a half years after the crime. Along with the life term, the court also imposed a fine of ₹15,000 on the convict.
The Special Judge under the POCSO Act, Banda, convicted the father, Deshraj, based on strong evidence and witness testimonies presented by the prosecution. The case dates back to April 2022, when the young girl from village Pousra in the Naraini police jurisdiction went missing.
A vigilant neighbor informed the police that the girl had been missing for two days. Subsequent investigation revealed a shocking truth: the murder was committed by her own father, who had buried her body in the backyard. The police recovered the body after digging at the site, and the post-mortem confirmed that the cause of death was strangulation.
During interrogation, Deshraj admitted to attempting to sexually assault his daughter. When she resisted, he killed her and buried the body to destroy evidence.
The case was registered under IPC Section 302 and other serious charges at Naraini Police Station, based on the statement filed by Inspector Rakesh Kumar Tiwari. Investigation was conducted by Inspector Manoj Kumar Shukla, and the chargesheet was filed in court on 6 December 2022.
Strong advocacy by public prosecutor Virendra Dwivedi, combined with coordinated police efforts, led to a robust prosecution, ultimately resulting in the life sentence.
This landmark judgment not only delivers justice to the victim but also sends a stern message to society: no one is above the law, even if the crime occurs within the family.
