A birthday celebration in Meerut turned tragic late Sunday night when a father allegedly stabbed his brother-in-law to death over his daughters dancing at the party. A young man trying to intervene was also seriously injured. The accused has been arrested by the police.
The incident took place at Gulmarg Colony during the birthday party of Chand’s daughter, Gulfsha. Family members and relatives had gathered for the celebration, enjoying the festivities. Among the attendees was Salim, father of two daughters, along with his wife Nargis, while the victim, Yunus, the brother of Nargis, was also present with his children.
Dispute over dance escalates
During the celebration, Salim reportedly objected to his daughters dancing and left the party in anger, returning home with his children. Around 10:30 pm, after Nargis reached home, an argument ensued between her and Salim, escalating into a violent confrontation. Nargis called her brother Yunus for help.
Stabbing leaves one dead, one critical
Yunus arrived at Salim’s house with his nephew Naushad. A heated argument quickly turned into a physical fight. In a fit of rage, Salim allegedly grabbed a knife and stabbed Yunus multiple times in the chest. When Naushad tried to save his uncle, Salim reportedly stabbed him in the back as well.
Neighbors and family members rushed to the scene upon hearing the commotion. Yunus and Naushad were immediately taken to Payarelal District Hospital. Yunus succumbed to his injuries during treatment, while Naushad remains in critical condition.
Police action
Meerut Police promptly arrested Salim and recovered the knife used in the attack. Superintendent of Police (City) Ayush Vikram Singh confirmed that a case under murder and attempt-to-kill sections has been registered. Preliminary investigations suggest that the dispute stemmed from family tensions and Salim’s anger over his daughters dancing at the party.
