Father Confesses to Brutal Murder of 16-Year-Old Daughter in Badaun; Police Uncover Shocking Truth

In a chilling revelation that has sent shockwaves across the region, the Badaun police have uncovered that a 16-year-old girl, Sonam, was brutally murdered by her own father. The accused, identified as Ikrar, has been arrested after confessing to the crime during police interrogation.

Sonam, a resident of Lehara Laharpur village under the Wazirganj police station area, had gone missing on the night of December 19. Ten days later, on December 29, her mutilated body was discovered in a mustard field in a rural area of Badaun. The condition of the body was so severe that only the head and legs were clearly visible, leading villagers to initially suspect that wild animals had attacked the corpse.

The discovery sparked panic and outrage in the village. Senior Superintendent of Police Dr. Brijesh Kumar Singh rushed to the spot and ordered an immediate and thorough investigation.

Family Tried to Mislead Police

During the initial probe, Sonam’s family members attempted to mislead the police by suggesting that unknown miscreants had murdered the girl and dumped her body in the field. However, the post-mortem report revealed that Sonam’s throat had been slit with a sharp weapon, confirming homicide.

As suspicion deepened, the police detained Sonam’s father and two other relatives for questioning. Under sustained interrogation, Ikrar broke down and confessed to killing his daughter.

Murder Over “Honor” Concerns

According to the police, Ikrar stated that he was angered by what he described as his daughter’s “immoral conduct” and her alleged relationship with a युवक (lover). He claimed that her actions had brought “shame” to the family and damaged his social standing.

On the night of December 19, Sonam allegedly left home and later encountered her father near a tubewell. A heated argument followed, during which Ikrar, in a fit of rage, attacked Sonam with a sickle (हंसिया), slitting her throat and killing her on the spot. He then dumped her body in a nearby mustard field to conceal the crime.

Weapon Recovered, Accused Sent to Jail

Based on Ikrar’s confession, the police recovered the murder weapon from his possession. The accused has been formally arrested and sent to judicial custody.

Police officials have termed the case a “heinous crime driven by misplaced notions of honor” and stated that strict legal action will be ensured.

The incident has once again raised serious questions about violence against girls, patriarchal mindsets, and so-called “honor killings” in society.
