Satna:
A tragic road accident in Madhya Pradesh’s Satna district claimed the lives of a father and his seven-year-old son, shattering an entire family and triggering public outrage.
The victims, identified as Shankhdhar Kevat (35) and his son Siddhu alias Siddharth (7), were riding a motorcycle on Tuesday evening to bring Shankhdhar’s wife back from their agricultural field. However, their journey ended in tragedy when a speeding bulker truck rammed into their bike between Matehna and Kripalpur.
The impact was so severe that both father and son died on the spot.
Family Returning from Fields
According to family members, Shankhdhar had gone along with his young son to fetch his wife from their field hut (ahri). At around 7 pm, as they reached the Matehna–Kripalpur stretch, a fast-moving and allegedly out-of-control truck struck the motorcycle head-on.
Both were thrown onto the road and crushed under the heavy vehicle, leaving no chance of survival.
Villagers Block Road in Anger
Soon after news of the accident spread, a large number of villagers gathered at the spot. Enraged over the deaths and frequent accidents on the stretch, locals blocked the Matehna road and staged a protest.
The anger was so intense that protesters initially prevented the police from lifting the bodies. Traffic remained disrupted for nearly an hour.
Police Intervention Restores Order
Kolgawan police station in-charge Sudip Soni reached the spot with a heavy police force. After extended discussions and assurances of strict action, the protesters agreed to clear the road.
The bodies were then sent to the district hospital for postmortem examination.
Truck Driver Taken into Custody
Police confirmed that the bulker driver, who attempted to flee the scene, was detained. The truck has been seized and parked at the police station.
A case has been registered, and further investigation into the accident is underway.
The heartbreaking incident has once again raised serious concerns over reckless driving by heavy vehicles on rural roads, with residents demanding stricter enforcement to prevent such fatal tragedies in the future.
