Farmer and Leopard in Deadly Struggle: 15 Minutes of Life-or-Death Fight Ends Tragically

Alwar, Rajasthan: A tense encounter unfolded in Kharkadi village under Narayanpur police jurisdiction in Kotputli-Behror district on Saturday morning when a leopard attacked a farmer working in his field. The farmer, who was armed with a small axe, fought the predator for approximately 15 minutes, resulting in the leopard’s death. The farmer sustained serious injuries and was hospitalized for treatment.

Attack Occurred While Collecting Fodder
According to villagers, 48-year-old Shravan Gurjar had gone to his field around 7 a.m., approximately 500 meters from his home, to collect fodder for his goats. While cutting a tree branch, a leopard cub hiding in nearby bushes suddenly attacked him.

15-Minute Struggle for Survival
Shravan Gurjar recounted that the leopard clawed and bit him on his face, neck, and other parts of his body. Caught off guard, he struggled to defend himself, leading to a life-or-death encounter lasting roughly 15 minutes. During the fight, Gurjar repeatedly attempted to protect his life.

Leopard Killed in Self-Defense
Taking advantage of a moment during the struggle, Gurjar struck the leopard on its head with his axe. The predator sustained fatal injuries and died on the spot. Villagers immediately rushed the seriously injured farmer to the Alwar Government Hospital for treatment.

Forest Department Confirms Self-Defense
The Forest Department responded promptly to the incident. Forester Manoj Naga stated that the leopard’s body had been brought to the department office, and formal procedures were being followed. Preliminary investigations confirmed that the leopard was a cub. “The leopard attacked the villager, and the farmer acted in self-defense. The post-mortem and other formalities are being completed to prepare a full report,” Naga added.

Village Demands Compensation
Bhagirath Saini, sarpanch of Kharkadi village, said that Shravan Gurjar’s family depends on agriculture for their livelihood. He demanded appropriate compensation for the injured farmer and his family from the Forest Department. Villagers have also requested increased wildlife monitoring in the area to prevent similar incidents in the future.
