Faridabad Smart Road Collapses Before Completion, Causing Commotion Near Union Minister’s Residence

Faridabad – 18 November 2025: A newly constructed smart road in Faridabad, which was nearing completion, collapsed unexpectedly, creating traffic chaos and raising serious concerns about construction quality. The road, part of the Sector 19-28 dividing road from Barkhal Chowk to the bypass, had a total project cost of ₹42 crore. The collapse occurred just 10 meters from the residence of Union Minister Krishanpal Gurjar, prompting local residents to demand a quality check and action against the contractor.

Project Details
The smart road project, initiated on 27 January 2019, was envisioned under Faridabad Smart City Limited to serve as a model stretch, complete with a cycling track, underground electrical lines, footpaths, road grills, markings, and lighting. Initially, a budget of ₹63 crore was allocated for the 1.62 km road, but it was later reduced to ₹42 crore following instructions from the then Chief Minister. Most of the construction work had been completed before the sudden collapse.

Residents Demand Accountability
Local residents expressed their frustration over the incident. Ravindra, a nearby resident, said that a road built at such a high cost should have been able to withstand even light vehicular pressure. Ajay, another resident, demanded a thorough quality assessment and strict action against the contractor responsible.

Authorities Respond
Sanjeev Gupta, Executive Engineer at Faridabad Smart City Limited, confirmed that the department had received reports of the road collapse. He stated that an investigation will be conducted to identify the cause, and the contractor will be instructed to repair the road promptly.

This incident has triggered public outcry over construction standards and raised questions about accountability in government-funded infrastructure projects.
