Family Harassed on Train to Ujjain; Protest Leads to Clash Between Communities

Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh: A family traveling from Gujarat to Ujjain for ash immersion ceremonies faced harassment and assault on a MEMU train, triggering tension between two communities at the Nagda railway station. Police intervened to restore order and have registered a case against seven individuals.

Incident on Train

The incident occurred at night as the train departed Ratlam station. Youths from a particular community reportedly harassed a young girl traveling with her family. When the family protested, they were physically assaulted. The conflict escalated further when the perpetrators allegedly called reinforcements at Khachrod station, continuing the assault on the family.

Police Action and Arrests

Other passengers managed to restrain three of the attackers on the train, while police maintained order at Nagda station using force to disperse crowds. In total, seven suspects were taken into custody and sent to Ratlam for investigation. The victims were provided medical examination by GRP authorities and later escorted under police protection to Ujjain for their planned ash immersion.

Community Tension

The confrontation at Nagda station attracted large groups from both communities, prompting authorities to deploy nearly 200 police personnel from seven police stations, including Additional SPs and SDOPs, to ensure peace. Police confirmed that the situation is now under control, and CCTV footage is being reviewed to identify further suspects.

Legal Proceedings

The GRP has filed an FIR under sections including harassment, assault, threats to life, and unlawful assembly. Ujjain SP Pradeep Sharma stated that investigations are underway, and the seven suspects from Nagda will be presented in court. Authorities have also appealed to the public to avoid spreading rumors that could aggravate the situation.
